Pauline B. (Bakura) Broadwater

June 26, 1918 ~ July 12, 2016 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Pauline B. Broadwater, a resident of Hummelstown for over 65 years, ascended to Heaven on July 12, 2016 at the home of her daughter in Manheim.

She was born in Orient, PA, Fayette County to Lithuanian immigrants, Julia and William Bakura. On June 26th, she celebrated her 98th birthday surrounded by her family.  Pauline was married for 55 years to Eugene H. Broadwater, a retired PA State Police sergeant.  Eugene, her husband, predeceased her in 1997 as well as a sister, Nelle Montgomery, a brother, Joseph Bakura and her daughter, Jane Bitterman in 2001.

She is survived by two sons, Barry E. and his wife Carole of Elizabethtown, Dale W. and his wife Charlene of Elizabethtown, and a daughter, Sally B., wife of Steven Still of Manheim.  In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren: Kellie Lichtinger, Keith Broadwater, Amy Cusick, Brian Broadwater, Todd Bitterman, Lindsay Still, Tracy Karaszkiewicz, two great granddaughters and eight great grandsons.

Pauline was a devoted wife and mother and spent her early married years raising her four children.  After working for the Lower Dauphin School District, she was employed by Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center from 1961 until 1981.  She enjoyed growing vegetables, raspberries, making jellies, canning, sewing and knitting.  One of her favorite pastimes was playing pinochle at the Moehler Senior Center in Hershey and the Rodney Senior Center in Lancaster.  Her family was her priority and spending time with the multiple generations gave her great pleasure.  She often remarked that she was lucky to have her children and their families living in close proximity.

Funeral services will be celebrated by Father Podlesny on Saturday, July 16, at 12:00 noon at the Buse Funeral Home, 2 East Main Street, Hummelstown.  A viewing will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at Buse Funeral Home prior to the service with burial immediately following the service at the Hummelstown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice For All Seasons, 280 South Hill Drive, Grantville, PA 17028 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
