Arthur Lloyd Myers, Sr., 90, of Gretna Springs, Manheim, and most recently of Ecumenical Retirement Community, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 24, 2016.

 

Born January 3, 1926, he was the ninth child of Miles and Lillie (Attick) Myers of Oberlin.

 

A member of “The Greatest Generation,” he graduated from Swatara Township High School as a member of the class of 1944, and then proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy, seeing combat aboard the USS Purdy in the Battle of Okinawa.  Returning home, he married his childhood sweetheart, Kitty May Bender on June 7, 1945 in Oberlin.  He was a retired clerk from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years of service, was a member of the Harrisburg Postal Male Chorus, a former member of Brookfield Bible Church, and attended Lebanon Valley Bible Church.

 

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Kitty May (Bender) Myers, children Sue (George) Garcia, Jan (Greg) Martin, Art (Christa) Myers, and Steve (Theresa) Myers, 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and brother-in- law, Irwin “Skip” Bender.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and his seven brothers.

 

Friends are invited to a celebration of his life on, Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Buse Funeral Home, 2 East Main Street, Hummelstown with viewing from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. and service immediately following with the Rev. Paul J. Connor, Sr. officiating.  Interment will be in Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or your charity of choice.  A proud WWII veteran, celebrate Art’s life by thanking a veteran for their service.
