Robert G. Gustafson

Rev. Dr. Robert G. Gustafson, 96, of Hershey went to his Father’s House Thursday, March 9, 2017.

Born November 21, 1920 in Belvidere, Illinois, he was a son of the late Gunnar and Signa (Johnson) Gustafson. On July 25, 1942, he married his wife of 74 years, Mildred (Swan) of Baron, Wisconsin.

Robert served in the Army Air Force as a S/Sgt in the China Burma India Theater for 28 months. In preparation for the ministry, he earned his A.A. and Th.B. and then in 1980, a Doctorate of Ministry. In 1981, he was honored as the Alumnus of the Year by Trinity University, the denomination’s highly rated school. His 38 year ministry was spent in Belvidere, IL, Glenview, IL, Belle Mead, NJ, and Bridgewater, NJ. He was active in the Evangelical Free Church of America, working on committees dealing with retirement homes and youth camps. After retirement and moving to Hershey, Robert served as an interim minister in Iowa, Ohio and several local churches in PA.

The Gustafsons have three children, Donna M. of Princeton, NJ, David P., husband of Kuki of Oakland, CA, and Bruce D., husband of Debbie of Stockton, NJ; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.  He is also survived by brother Harold W. Gustafson of Illinois and sister Jean Hoiness of Arizona.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Evangelical Free Church of Hershey, 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown, PA preceded by a visitation from 10 - 11 am. Private interment, with military honors, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
