Thomas J. Shutt, 86, of East Hanover Township, Dauphin County passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones at home.
Born July 9, 1938 in Linglestown, he was a son of the late Carl L., Sr. and Beatrice (Geesaman) Shutt. Tom was the widower, after 60 years of marriage, of Martha S. (Hetrick) Shutt since May 29, 2018 and also preceded in death by siblings Carl Shutt, Jr., Larry Shutt, and Darlene Shuey.
Retired from H. B. Reese Candy Company after 38 years, Tom started at age 19 as a “Peanut Butter Boy” and later worked in Receiving, Peanut Processing, and as General Factory Area Supervisor. He was a proud dairy farmer and member of Faith United Church of Christ, Grantville. Tom previously worked at Penn National Dirt Track and enjoyed hunting, his annual trip to Wyoming, fishing, and spending time at his place in Chincoteague. He was active in the Shellsville VFW, had been a member of the Grantville Volunteer Fire Company #39 in the 1960s and an East Hanover Township Supervisor for six years.
Surviving are his children Bruce T., husband of Debra Shutt, Brian T., husband of Cindy Shutt, Bradley T., husband of Barbara Shutt and Brenda L., wife of Timothy Shatto; sister Verna Rollman; grandchildren and great grandchildren Branden and Katie (Twaddell) Shutt (Paige and Adalyn), Kayle and Ashley (Bucher) Shutt (Maci, Korbin and Easton), Katelyn (Shutt) and Carl Witmer (Cayden and Carter), Jessica (Shutt) Shields (Ryleigh Allison and Mackenzie Archer), Jeremy Shutt, Makayla Shutt, Meghan (Shatto) and Andy Gooch (Alina and Isabel), and Timmy Shatto; and canine companion Ethel.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Faith United Church of Christ, 117 North Faith Road, Grantville preceded by a viewing beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Grantville Cemetery.
