Sandra Brown Johnson, 87, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family. Born on February 19, 1938, and raised in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, she carried her Southern grace, hospitality, and strong work ethic with her throughout her life. A natural athlete, Sandra was a state champion baton twirler and a scrappy basketball player who never backed down from a challenge. Her energy and competitive spirit stayed with her well into her later years—she could still outrun and outshop her granddaughters.
Sandra married the love of her life, Robert Delaine Johnson, and together they shared 67 devoted years of marriage. Their home was filled with warmth, laughter, and the kind of welcome that made everyone feel like family. A talented beautician, Sandra owned and operated her own shop from home, serving her community with skill, care, and impeccable craftsmanship. She was also deeply creative—crocheting hundreds of dishcloths and heirloom Afghans that will be held close by generations of loved ones. She enjoyed crafting, baking holiday cookies and biscuits, attending church bazaars, and singing with her beautiful alto voice in the choir for many years. She also cherished the friendships and experiences she gained during her years with the Zembo Shrine.
Sandra had a gift for simple living and found joy in everyday treasures. She loved browsing secondhand stores—not because she had to, but because she reveled in the thrill of a bargain. Her Southern cooking and famous pimento cheese, ham salad, and chicken salad sandwiches were staples at family gatherings. She adored scuppernong grapes and embodied the warmth of true Southern hospitality. Sandra was a longtime member of Faith United Church of Christ in Grantville, PA, where she enjoyed fellowship, worship, and serving alongside her church family. Above all, Sandra was devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Delaine Johnson; her two children, Debbie (Dave) Walmer of Hummelstown, PA, and Kevin (Lori) Johnson of Pine Grove, PA; her granddaughters Jenelle (Nate) Miller of Annville, PA, Ashley (Keith) Foundling of Palmyra, PA, Hailey Johnson, and Braylin Johnson; her great-granddaughters Adalyne Frankfort, Stella Miller, and Zarah Foundling; and her sister, Patricia Edwards of Roanoke Rapids, NC. She will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, generosity, and the love she poured into everything she did and everyone she met. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and in the countless lives she touched with her kindness and grace.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held 12:00 Noon – 1:30 PM Friday, December 12, 2025 at Faith United Church of Christ, 117 North Faith Road, Grantville. Private interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
