Robert "Bobby" Harold Witmer left his failing body to a better world on New Year's Eve, 2021.
He was born on October 23, 1947 in Lebanon Good Samaritan Hospital to Harold and Frances Witmer and was also preceded in death by brother Kenneth Witmer. He spent his childhood in Annville, PA and eventually graduated from Annville Cleona High School.
Bobby began working for Hershey Foods in 1965, but his life was interrupted by being drafted to fight in the Vietnam War. His service in the Army was from 1967 through 1970, earning him various medals including a Sharpshooter Badge. Bobby proudly served his country, but unfortunately, would never talk about this time of his life. Hershey Foods was kind enough to hold his position within the company. Bobby returned to work and eventually retired from working for Hershey Foods as a Mechanical Engineer after 37 years of service.
Bobby had deep love for his longtime companion, Roxi Specht, who spent the past 16 years of life with him. Even at the end of his life, he could be heard saying "Hey, beautiful" to Roxi on a daily basis.
Bobby didn't just love things though, he had a true passion for things...like his cat, Pepper-Anne, yard sales, scratch-off lottery tickets, his Corvette, collectibles and tools. He attended Hanoverdale Church in Hummelstown, PA.
His remaining relatives are his daughter, Jennifer; son, Christopher; one grandchild, Daniella; his "favorite" brother, Jeffrey (wife, Cheryl); nephews, Steve, Mike, Brian, Adam, Damon; and nieces, Erin and Camryn.
Bobby smoked like a chimney (and never apologized for that fact), was loud with his voice (but rarely angry), loved a great bargain (and to show it off to everyone) and was ALWAYS smiling and laughing.
There will be a viewing with visitation 12:30 – 1:30 PM Friday, January 7, 2022 at Buse Funeral Home, 9066 Jonestown Road, Grantville, PA. Interment, with military honors, will follow at 2PM Friday at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Due to the current high numbers of Covid infections, there will be no celebration of life gathering after the services.
Please do not let this deter you from celebrating his life. Do something to make you laugh and live life, just in a smaller but safer setting, with him in mind! If you knew Bobby, you know that he loved the beauty in plants and flowers but he would not want them for himself at this time. Instead, for the Spring/Summer of 2022, purchase a flower, bush or tree and plant it for yourself to remember him by...Bobby will enjoy the beauty of it from heaven!
