Robert E. Lauver

Robert E. Lauver, 82, formerly of Harpers passed away Friday, July 17, 2020 at his home in Mt. Gretna.

Born October 7, 1937 in Richfield, he was a son of the late Herbert C. and Pauline (Nace) Lauver and also preceded in death by brother Herbert C. Lauver, Jr. and twin brother Donald L. Lauver in January 2020.

Retired owner of the former Harper’s General Store, Bob attended Mt. Gretna United Methodist Church and was a faithful and beloved member of Faith United Church of Christ, Grantville.  He served on the Penn National Board of Directors for the Race Track Chaplaincy of America, was always willing to volunteer his time and resources in whatever way he could and had a special heart for helping others.  Bob was instrumental in starting the Grantville Area Food Pantry, and overseeing its expansion; began a weekly meal program at the Penn National Race Track; assisted with a summer lunch program for children in the Grantville community; started a Monday night community picnic which drew hundreds each summer; helped with mission festivals and various fundraisers; served on the Mission Committee; and always asked, "Is there anything I can do, or anyone who needs any help?"

Surviving are his wife of 62 years Barbara E. (Howell) Lauver; sons Robert A. Lauver of Greensboro, NC and Scott W. Lauver of Mt. Gretna; sisters in law Mary J. Lauver of Middleburg and Joanne P. Lauver of Mechanicsburg; and grandchildren Matthew Lauver of Park City, UT and Isabella Lauver of Raleigh, NC.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 28, 2020 at the Mt. Gretna Tabernacle, 3rd Street and Glossbrenner Avenue, Mt. Gretna.  Private interment in Richfield Cemetery.
