Robert A. Brown

Robert A. Brown, 74, of Gillette, Wyoming went home Friday, March 3, 2023.

Bob loved God, loved his family, loved his country, and loved others. He tirelessly spent his days on this earth teaching others of the love that God has for them.

Born September 18, 1948, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William E., Jr., and Margaret (Morison) Brown.

Bob was ordained in May 1972 as a pastor in the Evangelical Congregational Church and served churches in Harrisburg, Bartonsville, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania before being commissioned in June 1981 as a U. S. Navy chaplain. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander with 15 years of service, having served on the U.S.S. Detroit, at N.A.S. Willow Grove, with the 2nd Marine Division, at N.A.S. Barbers Point, and at Naval Communications Station Wahiawa. Following his time in the Navy, Bob served as the chaplain at Mid Pacific Institute in Honolulu, Hawaii before finishing his career as a pastor in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania.

Bob received his Bachelor of Science from Taylor University; Master of Divinity from Evangelical Seminary; and Master of Religious Education from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. In addition to his civilian ministry before and after the military, he served as Ecclesiastical Endorser for the Evangelical Congregational Church from 2014 – 2019.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years Cynthia D. (Leonard) Brown, daughter Karen L. Baughman (Paul) of Gillette, WY, son David M. Brown of Aiea, HI, grandchildren Andrew, Kalaina, Valerie, and Daniel Baughman, sister Barbara Brown of Nutter Fort, WV and two nephews.

Private interment, with military honors will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

A memorial gathering will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, March 11, 2023, at First Evangelical Congregational Church, 55 West Main Street, Palmyra. Visitation to follow.

A memorial service will be held at 4 pm (MT), Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at New Life Gillette Church, 1000 Comanche Avenue, Gillette, WY. Visitation to follow.
