Randy L. Braden Obituary

Randy L. Braden, 74, of Conewago Township, Dauphin County died Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the Hershey Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years Leigh Ann (Schultz) Braden; two sons and their wives Daniel and Mandy and Andrew and Ashley all of Palmyra, as well as six grandchildren, Dayne, Wyatt, Cody, Katie, Lucas and Aliza.  He loved spending time with his family and was extremely proud of all of them.  Also surviving is his sister, Cindy, and her husband Larry Strong of Palmyra, and several cousins.

Born November 14, 1948 in New Kensington, Pennsylvania and spent his early years in Vandergrift, PA, his family moved to the Hershey area in the early 1960’s.  His parents became houseparents at Milton Hershey School and Randy attended school in Hershey and graduated from Hershey Vo-Tech in 1967.

Following graduation, he became certified as a farrier and was offered a job at Hanover Shoe Farm, but the war in Vietnam prevented that dream.  He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and was a telecommunicator, stationed at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.  He served a one year tour of duty in Vietnam as well.

After his honorable discharge, he held several jobs until he accepted employment at Crystal Pools, Inc., retiring after 40 years as construction superintendent.  He continued to work there part time until his death.  He loved his work and was proud to be part of the Crystal Pool Family.

He was a volunteer firefighter for over 40 years with Campbelltown Volunteer Fire Company and more recently Lawn Fire Company, serving in various offices in both companies.

Randy had been a scoutmaster for Troop 456 in Palmyra for over four years, as well as a Conewago Township supervisor for two years.

He particularly enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Clearfield County and also at his best friend's cabin in Lost River, West Virginia.  In addition, in recent years he enjoyed going out to breakfast with old friends and in the process, he gained many new friends which is so characteristic of Randy.

Viewings will be at the church Randy attended GracePoint Church, 740 Leon Avenue, Palmyra from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday, January 29, 2023 and 9:30 – 11:00 AM Monday, January 30, 2023 followed by a service at 11:00 AM Monday.  Interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
