Ralph B. Light, Jr.

Ralph B. Light, Jr., 104, of Palmyra, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 31, 2022.

Born August 30, 1917 in Palmyra, he was a son of the late Ralph and Mary (Miller) Light, Sr. and widower since February 2013 of Vera (Kline) Light after 68 years of marriage.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers Franklin, Clifford, Glenn, and Clyde Light, and his sister Georgene (Light) Lehman.

Surviving are his children Barbara Light of Palmyra, Linda Light-Wardlaw of Burlington, Colorado, and William Light of Annville; grandchildren Robin Prater of Lawton, Oklahoma, Eric Johnson of Squaw Valley, California, and Bryan Light of Lebanon; and great grandchildren Shaylyn Prater, Quinton Prater, and Christian Light.

Retired from the former Hershey Water Company, Ralph served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II.  He loved hunting when he was younger – he was one of the original members of the Palmyra Sportsman Association.  Ralph’s interests were many and varied.  He was an avid gardener.  He loved building things - his birdhouses can be found in Maryland and California; his wooden toys (tractors, cranes, and pick-up trucks) were on display at the Palmyra Library several years ago.  A voracious reader, he read two to three detective novels weekly until macular degeneration made that impossible.  He had a great (and wry) sense of humor.  Ralph loved telling stories about his experiences in the Army, his life as a boy and teenager, and his many adventures as a young man (he went to the 1939 World’s Fair in Queens, New York and flew home).

Private service with interment in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra will be held at the convenience of the family.
