Nelson C. Turner, 64, of Grantville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022.
Nelson was born on April 28, 1958, in Jackson, Miss., the son of Calvin Murphy Turner Jr. and Juanita Alma (Werner) Turner. He was the loving husband of Debra (Potts) Turner, to whom he was married for 26 years.
Nelson was a 1976 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School and attended Penn State University. He graduated from the Hotel Hershey Culinary Apprenticeship Program and blessed many people with his cooking skills. He worked as a professional cook at many organizations, most recently for The Milton Hershey School. His many recognitions included a first prize from Societe Culinaire Philanthropique of New York at its 119th annual Salon of Culinary Art, and a supervisor of the quarter prize from Hollywood Casino in Grantville.
A man of faith, Nelson for decades ministered to people in a congregation he established around his teaching of the King James Version of the Bible. He was an author and played guitar, and his depth of conversation and passionate beliefs left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His many years of unforgettable dedication to sharing his gifts and messages became a legacy that will inspire countless others for years to come.
He was preceded in death by his parents. In addition to his wife, surviving are his brothers, John Ford Turner of Wyomissing and Dylan Thomas Turner of Harrisburg; two daughters, Rachel Turner of Enola and Elisabeth Turner of Brooklyn; stepsons Derek Samuel VanDerslice and Joseph Walter VanDerslice, and stepdaughter Leah Kelley; and a number of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Buse Funeral Home, 9066 Jonestown Road, Grantville. Private interment will be in Shells Cemetery, Grantville.
