Miriam Elizabeth Rauch Baker, 96, from Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019.
Born on August 6, 1923 in Richfield, Pennsylvania, Miriam was the daughter of Rev. John Paul and Jennie Mae (Bickhart) Rauch. She was the widow of Melvin H. Baker and a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where for many years she sang in the choir. Miriam also coordinated family placement of flowers in the church for several decades and was affectionately known as the “flower lady”. Both she and her husband worked for many years at Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown. Mim, as she was called by her close friends and neighbors, enjoyed walking around her area of Hummelstown, and talking with the people she’d meet. As a regular in the aquasize class, and a long time member at the Hershey Plaza, Mim looked forward to her weekly swim time and being with her friends. At the age of 90, she was honored with a lifetime membership. She continued swimming close to her 94th birthday.
Surviving are her son Kenneth M. Baker, MD, husband of Pamela M. Baker; daughter Krista Jakubik, wife of Nelson E. Lutz, Sr.; brother Rev. John L. Rauch; five grandchildren Marie E. Baker, Emily C. Baker, Andrew L. Jakubik, Kaitlin R. Jakubik, and Joseph E. Jakubik; and one great grandson Jackson S. Jakubik.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Melda Rauch, Pauline Rauch, Ruth Rauch, Mary Esch, Kay Stephens, and Dorothy Delbaugh.
At her request, the family will have a private memorial service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 West Main Street, Hummelstown, PA 17036.
