Mahlon C. Byler

Mahlon C. Byler, 90, of Harrisburg, PA passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

He was born into an Amish family on August 3, 1931 in Middlefield, OH. He was one of thirteen children born to the late Crist E. and Sarah B. (Shrock) Byler. He was raised in the Amish faith and culture but left that community when he was 18 years old. He joined the U.S. Air Force and in less than 3 years became a jet fighter mechanic crew chief. The location of the base upon which he was stationed, K13, was a military secret during his war time service. Upon returning home and marrying he worked for many years as an automobile mechanic and then for Ryan Homes where he became a shop foreman. He loved Jesus and nature. Enjoyable pursuits included fishing, hunting, and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Tressa L. (Talcott) Byler. Other surviving loved ones include Tony Byler, husband of Debra Byler of Harrisburg, PA; Allen Byler of Mentor, OH; Debbie Coulter, wife of Lee Coulter of Newbury, OH; Nick Altstatt, husband of Linda Altstatt of Mount Vernon, OH; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, November 15, 2021 at Buse Funeral Home 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra preceded by a visitation from 12:30 PM. Private interment, with military honors, will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
