Mae Elizabeth Smith, 89, of Palmyra passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
Born March 26, 1934 in Hershey, she was a daughter of the late Levi L. and Carrie M. (Lebo) Leonard. She was the widow of Warren R. Smith since January 1993 and also preceded in death by brothers Marlin, Ben, Earl, Roy, Floyd and Mark Leonard and sisters Mirian Brown, Gladys Gingrich and Lucille Betz.
Mae was a former employee of Millard Quarry, Dr. Fitterer, Emwalt Services, and a Palmyra Crossing Guard. She sold Avon and was self employed as a private housekeeper. She took on being a Cub Scout Leader plus worked hard with her husband and children to deliver weekly and Sunday newspapers throughout Palmyra and North Londonderry Township, aka Old Forge Acres. She was an active member of the Palmyra Citizens Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former member of the First Evangelical Congregational Church, Palmyra and now a current member of Fishburn United Methodist Church, Hershey where she was active in choir, Women’s Ministry, plus Sunday School Class and even got involved with Red Bird Mission and travelling to Kentucky. More important was the church picnic, shut-ins with card ministry, and Sunday Bread Ministry. Mae also helped with the Hershey Food Bank when it was Fishburn’s turn at the house. If you needed anything, Mae would find you help. Her best work was never seen and that made her happy to see others helped. “Never forget those who came before you and take care of them.”
Surviving are her children Pamela J. Decker of Palmyra, William H. Smith (Martha) of Lancaster, and Timothy W. Smith (Lynnette) of Harrisburg; granddaughter Hope Decker; sister-in-law Lois Leonard; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at her church, 1215 Fishburn Road, Hershey preceded by a visitation from 2:00 PM. Private interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fishburn United Methodist Church, 1215 Fishburn Road, Hershey, PA 17033.
