LeRoy G. Houser Obituary

LeRoy “Roy” Guy Houser, 93, of Palmyra, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Londonderry Village in Palmyra, surrounded by his loving family.

Born November 28, 1932 in Hershey, PA, he was the son of the late Guy Grant Houser and Orpha (Brightbill) Houser.  He had many fond memories of playing football and baseball during his years at Hershey High School.  He graduated in 1951 and enjoyed visiting with former classmates at the many reunions he attended.  He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War years and was honorably discharged.

Roy married Joy Gingrich on December 12, 1959 in Palmyra at the First Evangelical Church where they were proud and active members for their entire marriage.  They were blessed with three children.  Roy worked most of his life for G.R. Sponaugle and Sons of Harrisburg as a Master Plumber and Pipefitter and was a member of Local Union 520.  He was a hard worker and wasn’t one to relax until ALL the work was done.  He instilled a good work ethic in his children, as well.  Roy especially loved restoring old Farmall tractors, gardening, hunting, working in his shop, and attending farm auctions where he could visit with his many friends.  After retirement, he traveled out west with friends and family members on several elk hunting trips to Colorado and Wyoming, where he had a wonderful time enjoying nature and pursuing the big one.  Most of all, Roy was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and those in need and could be counted on to get the job done, whatever it was.

Remaining to cherish Roy’s memory are his wife of 66 years, Joy, and their three daughters: Lori (Rick) Boger, Jonestown; Leanne (Neal) Niemuth, Osakis, MN; and Kim (Jim) Siar, Palmyra.  He will be lovingly remembered by three grandchildren, Michelle, Beth, and Ben; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.  Roy was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Houser and his sister, Mary Houser Shaeffer.

A funeral service will take place at First Evangelical Congregational Church, 55 West Main Street, Palmyra at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 preceded by a viewing from 10:00 AM.  Roy’s favorite color was red, so the family invites everyone to wear red.  Interment will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, 1013 Mumma Road, Suite 203, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
