Kenneth L. Basehore, 97, of Londonderry Village, Palmyra passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024. He was the widower of Jeanette T. Basehore with whom he shared 74 years of marriage. Ken remarried and at the time of his death, he was the husband of Charlotte Swigart.
Born June 29, 1927 at his parents’ home, he started school in a one-room schoolhouse and attended Hershey High School, but withdrew early to help support his siblings. He was employed in the excavating field for most of his working career, retiring from Pavex as a field superintendent. During his retirement, he became a talented woodworker, specializing in intarsia natural wood art. Many pieces are found in the homes of family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Ken was a longtime member and deacon of Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, Hershey where he served in numerous leadership positions.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary Ann Herr of Lititz, PA; son, Kerry (Betsy) of West Point, VA; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; wife, Charlotte Swigart and her family; and his sisters, Florence and Jean.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Florence (Minnich) Basehore; brothers, Earl and Paul; sisters, Miriam, Esther, Grace, Eva, Sara Jane and Faye; and son-in-law, Lawrence Herr.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, 335 East Areba Avenue, Hershey followed by a light reception and visitation. Private interment in Spring Creek Cemetery, Hershey.
