Kenneth C. "Smoke" Warfel

Kenneth C. “Smoke” Warfel, 88, of Hummelstown passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025.

Born April 14, 1937 in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Arthur Christian and Ann B. (Dailey) Warfel and also preceded in death by his brother Arthur Raymond Warfel.

A retired maintenance mechanic from Hershey Foods with 42 years service, he was a member of Chocolate Workers Union Local 464 and Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown.  Ken was a member of the Hummelstown High School Bulldog’s undefeated 1955 and 1956 seasons, the Hummelstown High School’s all time leading basketball scorer, first head coach of the Bulldog Midget Football Team, and member of the Hummelstown Baseball Association, where he coached many years and many levels.  A U.S. Army veteran of the Tank Division, Smoke was a founding member of the Hummelstown FFO.  He was a car enthusiast, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of 33 years Johanna M. (Renik) Warfel; daughter Kathi L. Chandler (Donald) of Marietta, Georgia; son Michael C. Warfel (Dawn) of Hummelstown; grandsons Austin, Alex, and Brady Warfel; step children John Bomberger (Susie), Keely Strangarity and Carla Bomberger; and step grandchildren Emma Bomberger, Dane, Kyle and Blake Strangarity and Brandon Bomberger.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, December 22, 2025 at Grace United Methodist Church, 433 East Main Street, Hummelstown preceded by a viewing from 10:00 AM.  Interment in Hummelstown Cemetery.
