John Warner Stafford, age 88, died peacefully in Mechanicsburg, PA on February 29, 2020.
John was born on February 2, 1932 in Pittsburgh, PA, to parents Charles Warner Stafford and Mae Jeanette (Whipp) Stafford. He graduated from Dormont High School and San Jose State College where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. John served in the Army from 1952 – 1954 during the Korean War.
He married Joyce Ruth Luebke on June 28, 1958 and the couple had a son, Charles August Stafford the following year.
John worked as a food technologist for a variety of canning companies in California and Pennsylvania, culminating in his final position as Vice President of Quality Assurance for Shurfine in Chicago, IL.
After retirement, he and Joyce moved to Senatobia, MS where he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and gambling. He also volunteered with the local water board working on issues with the community reservoir and water retention. In April of 2016 the couple moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to their son.
John is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Ruth Duesing, Marian Springer, Helen Holschuh and twin sister Nancy DiGioia. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son COL (R) Charles (Gus) Stafford and wife Debra; grandchildren, Jonathan Stafford and wife Sarah, Hannah Stafford and Genevieve Stafford.
