James Summers "Dog Man" Bower

James Summers “Dog Man” Bower, 78, of South Londonderry Township, passed away Friday, December 2, 2022.

Born March 14, 1944 in Auburn, New York, he was the son of the late Wilbur Dwight and Mildred H. (Summers) Bower. 

Retired after 32 years teaching in Derry Township School District, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from McPherson College, Kansas.  Jim was a member of Brownstone Lodge #666 F. & A.M. and Hershey Teachers Association.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years Charleen A. (Lowe) Bower; children Andrew Dewey Bower, James Douglas “JD” Bower and Heidi Lynn Afton (David); sisters Judith A. Brooks and Marilynn S. James (Philip); grandchildren Brynn E. Afton, Emma S. Afton, Aubree B. Afton and Bridger G. Afton.

A visitation will be held 2:00 – 3:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 40 West Pine Street, Palmyra. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
