Howard Roy Brubaker, age 84, of Mount Pleasant Mills, passed away August 26, 2020. Born in DuBois, PA, he was the only child of the late Howard and Amelia (Ackrom) Brubaker.
Surviving are his lovely wife of 60 years Sylvia (Lozano) Brubaker; his children Steven of Newport, RI, Rita Brown wife of Timothy of Strawberry Plains, TN, Roy husband of Kristi of Pleasant Hill, CA and Lisa Musser wife of Jason of Hummelstown; and grandchildren Dylan Brown husband of Alison, Sean Brown husband of Kelsey, Devin Silva and Kiara Cressinger.
A 1954 graduate of Cornwall High School, he studied mining engineering at Lehigh University before entering the Air Force. Roy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from University of Maryland and also received a Master’s of Arts degree in government from the University of Arkansas in 1973. He had done work toward a doctorate in public administration at the University of Southern California where he was awarded a Master’s Degree in Public Administration in 1978.
Roy retired after serving 23 years in the United States Air Force. He was a Vietnam veteran where he flew combat missions from Thailand. In Vietnam he provided air to ground communications for deployed Army Units. He and his family lived in France and Germany for eight years.
Roy designed and built his own passive solar home where he developed a small self-sufficient farm and orchard. He enjoyed gardening, reading and following the stock market.
A private family memorial service will be held in the future.
