Obituary

Henry “Todge or Hank” George Bazewicz, almost 99, of Country Meadows of Hershey, Pennsylvania and formerly of Cranford, New Jersey passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023.

Born January 24, 1924 in Harrison, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Alexander Bazewicz and Bronislawa Pawczinska Bazewicz and preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Margaret “Peggy” Ann Vollmer Bazewicz, his brothers Alexander “Wally” Bassett (Pearl) and Victor Bassett and his sisters Bernice Bagdzinski (Benjamin) and Florence “Babe” Wasowski (Stanley).

A 1941 graduate of Harrison High School and 1945 graduate of Newark College of Engineering, he worked as a Mechanical Engineer for Kearfott, IT&T and Lockheed.  While at Lockheed, he managed a team of engineers that designed and developed a tape recorder for NASA which recorded and transmitted data collected by the Mariner and Viking Landers that landed on Mars and Jupiter, respectively.  He was quite proud to inform people that he met that they could find his signature on Mars and Jupiter if they were ever in the area.

Music was an integral part of his life, although he never took a music lesson or could read music.  He played the Harmonica and was a member of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America).  If he wasn’t singing or playing the harmonica, he could be heard whistling.

Surviving are his children Robert and Elizabeth Bazewicz of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, Janet and William Kearney of Concord, New Hampshire, and James and Tiffany Bazewicz of Succasunna, New Jersey; ten grandchildren Katie Bazewicz (Kyle) Clark, Scott (Charity) Kearney, Tom (Michelle) Kearney, Jessica Kearney (Greg) Zini, Daniel (Tan) Bazewicz, Brittany Kearney (Patrick) Teune, Christopher Bazewicz, Becky Kearney (Cameron) York, Dove Bazewicz and Oliva Bazewicz; and seventeen great grandchildren.

Always the ambassador of good will and happiness, he would not have wanted us to mourn his death, rather we celebrate his life and all the joy that came with it.
