Harry Richard "Rich" Barley, II

Harry Richard “Rich” Barley, II, 80, of Palmyra passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026 in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Born January 6, 1946 in Roaring Spring, he was a son of the late Harry Richard and Daisy (Beegle) Barley.

Rich was a 1963 graduate of Glen Rock High School, New Jersey, 1967 graduate of Susquehanna University with a major in Chemistry and received his Master of Divinity from Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary.  A former pastor at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Middletown and St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Penryn, he recently served as supply pastor at Bindnagle Lutheran Church, Palmyra.  Rich also served as hospice chaplain with Asera Care, Good Samaritan, Compassionate Care and Heartland Hospice.

Singing tenor, he sang with the Harrisburg Choral Society, Jubilate! of Gettysburg, Hershey Community Chorus, Lebanon County Choral Society, and also with Medical Musical Group that performed at The Kennedy Center, Washington DC.  Rich enjoyed writing, was a member of Central Pennsylvania Writers’ Organization and authored "Home to My Village."

Surviving are his wife of 35 years Ruth A. (Clawser) Gebhart Barley; children Heather Barley Ball (Tim), Adam Barley (Eva), Tina Gebhart (Alan) and Sean Gebhart (Gen); brother James B. Barley (Ginni); grandchildren Emily, Sarah, Joshua, Rebecca, Jonah, Hazel and Genesis; and former wife Marcia. 

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 31, 2026 at Palm Lutheran Church, 11 West Cherry Street, Palmyra preceded by a visitation at 2:00 PM.  Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
