Gary C. Lyter, 82, of Hummelstown passed away Friday, November 4, 2022.
Born in Harrisburg on October 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Merril and Jean (Clarke) Lyter. He was also preceded in death by a son, Christopher Lyter, and a sister, Judy Lyter.
Gary was a 1958 graduate of Susquehanna High School. He was a US Army veteran who served in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed IT specialist and consultant who taught at Central Penn Business College. Gary was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. He sang with the church choir and several community choruses. He enjoyed reading, playing golf, woodworking, designing train layouts, carving small items, and watching horror movies. Gary produced and directed “Godspell” at Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Judith A. (Werner) Rine Lyter; son, Timothy Lyter (fiancée Jessica); stepchildren, Kimberly Schwalje (Mike) and Timothy Rine (Chrissy); daughter-in-law, Lisa Lyter; sisters, Ginger Sellers and Margie Stahr (Larry); grandchildren, Tyler Rine, Zachary Rine, Kasey Schwalje, and Teagan Schwalje; numerous nieces and nephews; and feline buddy, Cheetah.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 4700 Locust Lane, Harrisburg preceded by a visitation from 10:00 AM. Service will be livestreamed HERE.
