Galen W. Goshorn, 91, of Palmyra, formerly of Neelyton, went to be with his Heavenly Father Saturday, January 4, 2025 in Overland Park, Kansas.
Born August 21, 1933 in Blairs Mills, he was a son of the late Wilbert and Hannah (Vaughn) Goshorn. The last of his immediate family, Galen was preceded in death by his siblings, Eugene Goshorn of Neelyton, PA, George Goshorn of Blairs Mills, PA, Evelyn Arndt of Camp Hill, PA, Mary Booher of Orbisonia, PA, Hilda Hall of Camp Hill, PA, and Ruth Cook of Fayetteville, PA.
He was the owner of the former Goshorn Lumber Company, Neelyton. He served on the Board of Directors of the Valley Rural Electric Cooperative of Huntingdon County for many years. Galen was a U.S. Army veteran serving from August 1953 to June 1955, after which he transferred to the Army Reserves.
He loved baseball and could give you a play-by-play of games he was in from 50 years ago. He loved to golf and, again, could tell you details of shots he had in tournaments he was in for the past 50 years. He never tired of telling stories of his games. He also loved hunting and looked forward to spending time in the woods with his friends and family every Spring and Fall and sharing the many hunting stories afterwards.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Lebanon. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and served faithfully in every Church he was a part of. This included serving as a Deacon, teaching Sunday School to young adults, visiting shut-in members of his Church and community and sharing his love for Jesus to whoever would listen.
Surviving are his wife, the love of his life, Peggy A. (Campbell) Goshorn, with whom he would have celebrated 69 years of marriage on Tuesday, January 7; his children, Randy Goshorn (Lisa) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Edward Goshorn (Alla) of St. Thomas, PA, Mary Stanley (Fred) of Leawood, KS, Robin Bassett (Robert) of Carlisle, PA, and Karen Calderon (Ruben) of Camp Hill, PA; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and1 great-great-grandchild.
A public viewing will be held at 12:00 Noon followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Faith Baptist Church, 220 South 22nd Street, Lebanon. Interment, with military honors, will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
