Francisco Fuster Medina

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Francisco Fuster Medina, who was called to join the Lord on Sunday, February 16, at the age of 85. Born in the picturesque town of Lares, Puerto Rico, on September 17, 1939, “Pacolo”--as he was called by his close friends and relatives--spent his early years learning the values of hard work and  resilience, qualities that defined his adult life. He was the son of the late Eduardo Fuster Droz and Longina Medina Perez.

Though he enjoyed agriculture and math at school, he left Puerto Rico after graduating high school in 1957. His dream of a better life and better fortunes took him to New York City, where he worked at different odds-and-ends jobs. It wasn’t until he landed a truck driving job in JFK Airport that he found a pathway to making a living.

While living in Brooklyn, he met another fellow Puerto Rican, Raquel Torres Santa, and soon after they became married. In 1964, his first daughter, Beatriz Miranda, was born.

He returned to Puerto Rico in the mid 1960s and established a truck driving business, Transporte Fuster. He married for a second time in the mid 1970s to Luz Zenaida López Ríos, with whom he had two daughters, Kayra Fuster and Karen Fuster López, born in 1977 and 1981, respectively. 

Pacolo later expanded his business to include trailer sales and rental, renaming it  K&K Equipment.  Francisco had a great work ethic and always led by example. With help from friends and family, sheer determination, and a lot of luck, he was able to accomplish his dream of having a successful business that allowed him to take care of his family and enjoy some of the good things in life-- travel, cars, and morning hikes in Cerro Gordo, Puerto Rico. 

After health complications in 2017, he had to move to Palmyra, Pennsylvania, to live close to his youngest daughter, Karen.  While he lived in Palmyra, he enjoyed long walks, putting together puzzles, and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Pacolo has joined his younger brothers, the late Ludgardo Fuster Medina and Pedro Fuster Medina.

He is survived by his three daughters, Beatriz Miranda (Michael Miranda) of Land O’ Lakes, Florida, Kayra Fuster (Oscar Quintana) of Mason, Ohio, and Karen Fuster Lopez (Antonio Molinelli) of Palmyra, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his beloved sisters Candida Fuster Medina and Sara Fuster Medina; his grandchildren Suhaely Narbet Sánchez, Jon Michael Castro, Matthew Joel Castro, Antoine Renier Molinelli Fuster, Angélica Victoria Quintana Fuster, and Amelie Rue Molinelli Fuster; and great granddaughter Anays Sulay Tavárez-Sanchéz

A celebration of Pacolo’s life will be held in Lares, Puerto Rico, during the spring of 2025.

Es con mucho pesar que compartimos el fallecimiento de Francisco Fuster Medina, quien partió a morar con el Señor el domingo, 16 de febrero, a los 85 años. Nacido en el pintoresco pueblo de Lares, Puerto Rico, el 17 de septiembre de 1939, “Pacolo”—como le decían sus familiares y amigos más cercanos—pasó en Lares su infancia y adolescencia; aprendió de sus padres, Eduardo Fuster Droz y Longina Medina Pérez, el valor del trabajo duro y la perseverancia, cualidades que marcaron su vida adulta.

Aunque le encantaban la agricultura y las matemáticas en la escuela, dejó Puerto Rico tras graduarse de escuela superior en 1957. Con la esperanza de una vida mejor, se mudó a la ciudad de Nueva York, donde trabajó en distintos oficios. No fue hasta que consiguió un trabajo como camionero en el Aeropuerto JFK que encontró una forma estable de ganarse la vida.

Mientras vivía en Brooklyn, conoció a otra puertorriqueña, Raquel Torres Santa, con quien contrajo matrimonio poco después. En 1964 nació su primera hija, Beatriz Miranda.

Regresó a Puerto Rico a mediados de los años 1960 y fundó su propio negocio de transportes, Transporte Fuster. Se casó por segunda vez a mediados de los años 1970 con Luz Zenaida López Ríos, con quien tuvo dos hijas: Kayra Fuster y Karen Fuster López, nacidas en 1977 y 1981, respectivamente.

Más adelante, Pacolo expandió su negocio para incluir la venta y alquiler de vagones y fundó K&K Equipment. Francisco era un hombre con una estricta ética de trabajo: era siempre el primero en llegar y el último en salir de su oficina. Con la ayuda de familiares y amigos, inmutable determinación y mucha suerte, logró su sueño de tener un negocio exitoso que le proveyera lo suficiente para cuidar de su toda su familia y disfrutar de algunos de los placeres de la vida: viajar, manejar carros de lujo, y dar caminatas en la playa de Cerro Gordo, Puerto Rico.

Tras enfrentar problemas de salud en 2017, se mudó a Palmyra, Pensilvania, para vivir cerca de su hija menor, Karen. Durante su tiempo en Palmyra, continuó disfrutando de dar largas caminatas, armar rompecabezas y compartir con sus nietos.

Pacolo ahora descansa junto a sus hermanos menores, Ludgardo Fuster Medina y Pedro Fuster Medina.

Le sobreviven sus tres hijas: Beatriz Miranda (Michael Miranda) de Land O’ Lakes, Florida; Kayra Fuster (Oscar Quintana) de Mason, Ohio; y Karen Fuster López (Antonio Molinelli) de Palmyra, Pennsylvania. Le sobreviven también sus adoradas hermanas, Cándida Fuster Medina y Sara Fuster Medina; sus nietos Suhaely Narbet Sánchez, Jon Michael Castro, Matthew Joel Castro, Antoine Renier Molinelli Fuster, Angélica Victoria Quintana Fuster y Amelie Rue Molinelli Fuster; y su bisnieta Anays Sulay Tavárez-Sanchéz

La celebración de la vida de Pacolo se llevará a cabo en Lares, Puerto Rico, durante la primavera de 2025.
