Esther Marie (Engle) Hivner

Esther Marie Engle Hivner, 94, formerly of Hummelstown passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020 in the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.  

Born April 25, 1926 in Hummelstown, she was the daughter of the late Morris M. and Anna (Shenk) Engle.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Richard L. Hivner in January 2016 and also preceded in death by her five siblings Anna Lucille Otto, Cyrus Daniel Engle, Morris Mumma Engle, Jr, John Warren Engle, Robert Melvin Engle.  

She was a retired second grade teacher for Lower Dauphin School District, and also taught for the former Hummelstown High School.  She was a 1943 graduate of Hummelstown High School and of Lebanon Valley College in 1947.  Esther was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown for over 80 years.

Surviving are her children Nancy L. Hivner of Elizabethtown, Richard L. (Clare) Hivner, Jr. of Pasadena, California, and Robert M. (Lynn) Hivner of Landisville; six grandchildren (Andrew, Ellen, Sarah, Amy, Matthew and Elizabeth); ten great-grandchildren (Camila, Lillian, Knox, Ethan, Charlotte, Isaac, Kairo, Annelise, Brendan, and Eliza); and many cherished nieces and nephews and their children.  She was well loved and loved others well.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 3, 2020 at her church, 210 West Main Street, Hummelstown preceded by a visitation from 10:00 AM.  Private interment in Hummelstown Cemetery.

Attendees are asked to wear masks and observe social distancing when entering the church and greeting the family.
