Ernest E. Cassel, 89, of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 due to coronary artery disease.
Born February 22, 1931 in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Charles V. and Mildred I. (Straw) Cassel and also preceded in death by siblings Charlie, Bob, Mary Catherine and Doris.
Ernie was a 1949 graduate of Lower Paxton Township High School and employed for 38 years with the government at Olmsted Air Force Base, Middletown and Defense Depot Mechanicsburg. He retired as a highly respected supervisor, never called off sick and received many commendations for workmanship and leadership. After marrying Nancy and moving to Hershey, he worked 15 years in physical therapy at the Hershey Medical Center. A corporal in the U. S. Army, he was stationed in Iceland during the Korean Conflict and was a member of West Shore Lodge #681, Zembo Shrine, Tall Cedars, Scottish Rite Consistory all of Harrisburg and American Legion #109 and VFW #6704 both of Mechanicsburg.
Ernie and Nancy loved boating on their pontoon, staying at the cabin on the river and were fortunate to enjoy 32 cruises.
Surviving are his wife of 31 years Nancy L. (Lehman) Cassel; daughters Linda Cassel, Cathy Daugherty (Kim), Karen Fornwald (Dave) and Polly Cohick (John); stepchildren Sharon Martin (Randy) and Mike Hollinger; brother Richard Cassel; brother in law Paul Lehman (Patsy, deceased); and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ernie has donated his body to Humanity Gifts Registry at the Hershey Medical Center; therefore, no funeral is planned.
