Earl Stanley Hoffsmith, 87, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 3, 2023 after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Earl was born in Annville, PA, on February 18, 1936, to the late Paul and Annie (Herr) Hoffsmith. Earl was also preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Jim, and sisters, Pauline and Lucille.
A graduate of Annville High School, he was a carpet and bricklayer by trade, working hard to provide for his family. He will be remembered as someone who loved God and his family. Big Earl, as many affectionately knew him, was kind and generous and a man of integrity.
Earl enjoyed a long and happy marriage to his wife, Marion (Graybill) of 66 years. Together they found great joy in building a solid family, including children, Tom (Judy), Beth Coffey (Steve), Karen Gerhart (Steve) and Tim (Belinda), along with 14 grandchildren, David, Jennifer, Eric, Alexander, Kaylee, Stephen, Janelle, Nathan, Julia, Kevin, Lauren, Kent, Kyle and Joel and 24 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He was a faithful prayer warrior for his family, praying by name for each one. Earl always had time for his grandchildren, including attending countless sporting events and cheering them on.
As a long-time member of Community Bible Church, Palmyra, he served in various capacities and enjoyed using his building skills on several mission trips to New Mexico, Mexico and France and helping to build the church building. A real joy for Earl and Marion was opening their home that Earl built, providing meals and times of fellowship around the table to countless people, including family, friends and strangers.
We grieve but not without hope. Because of Earl’s faith in Christ, we look forward to being with him again someday in heaven.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, December 9, 2023 at his church, 1849 South Forge Road, Palmyra. Following Earl and Marion's example and joy in sharing hospitality, everyone is invited to stay and visit with the family and friends over some refreshments. We would love to talk with you. Private interment in Campbelltown United Christian Cemetery.
The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care given by the Dragonfly Team from Hospice of Central PA and the in-home caregivers from “A Daughters Love.”
Memorial Contributions may be made to Community Bible Church, the International Fellowship of Jews and Christians, and Hospice of Central Pennsylvania.
