Earl M. “Whitty” Whitmore, Jr. formerly of Palmyra, PA passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at his residence at Heritage of Green Hills, Shillington, PA. Whitty was born in Lebanon, PA, on August 7, 1926, the son of the late Earl M. Whitmore and Hazel (Gingrich) Whitmore and also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Boyd) Whitmore on July 24, 1993. In addition, he was preceded in death by siblings Agnes Hartman, Carl Whitmore, Dorothy Stechman and step-sister Evelyn Pavone. He was also preceded in death by his step-daughter Geraldine Hainly on November 23, 2010 and his step-grandson Donald C. “Skip” Hainly on November 2, 2024. He is survived by Kathy Hainly (Skip’s wife) and his step-granddaughter, Lee Anne Sattazahn (Robert), step-great grandchildren Steven Sattazahn (Amanda) and Susan Gillam (Jason), four step-great great grandsons, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Palmyra High School and retired from Hershey Foods. He had been an active member of the Campbelltown United Methodist Church. Whitty was very active in the Palmyra area for many years during which he coached teener baseball, volunteered as a starter for track meets both locally and for the Hershey Foods Track and Field program, and ran the clock at basketball games at Palmyra Area High School. Additionally, he was a PIAA official for football and basketball for many years. Because of his interest in many sports, he was well known in the Palmyra and surrounding area. Whitty enjoyed bowling and was a part of many bowling leagues over the years. He also served as a sports correspondent for the Lebanon Daily News for several years and was a big Penn State fan. Whitty was always glad to share a story or two with anyone who had the time to listen.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
