Dwight L. Steinly, Jr. Obituary

Dwight L. Steinly, Jr., 54, of Grantville, PA passed away Friday, June 24, 2022 due to complications post-surgery. He was born May 22, 1968 in Warren, OH and grew up in Garrett, PA. He is survived by his wife Joy (Barmoy) Steinly; children Jacob (Alana), Noah, and Victoria “Tori;” parents Dwight “Butch,” Sr. and Mary Ann (Fritz) Steinly; and brothers Eric (Jolene) and Aaron (Kristen).

Dwight was happily employed as the Training Director for the state of Pennsylvania Office of the Budget where he worked for 28 years. He often enjoyed riding his Honda Gold Wing trike to and from work.

Growing up in Garrett, PA, Dwight was lovingly known as “Garrett Boy.” He and Joy met at high school band camp in 1984 and became high school sweethearts. They married in 1992 and had three wonderful children. They had a harmonious relationship as they gracefully balanced life, love, and family.

He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He embraced every moment he had with the people he loved and always strived to help others in need. He contributed to the community in multiple capacities. He was very active at the Hanoverdale Church, where he served on the church board, taught youth Sunday school, and sang in the special music quartet. He will fondly be remembered as the Lower Dauphin High School’s band parent-supporter where he trailered the band’s equipment for their events. Additionally, he served as the president of the Harrisburg Lion’s Club.

Dwight actively participated in historic, middle-age reenactments with the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). He was a squire to Ivan, Wulfgar, and part of Household Silverkeep. He was awarded the “Silver Tiger” and earned his heavy weapons Marshal title. He enjoyed many other activities including hunting, camping, archery, woodworking, singing, and World of Tanks gaming.

A memorial service will be held 7:00 PM Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Hanoverdale Church, 577 Hershey Road, Hummelstown preceded by a visitation from 5:30 PM.
