Dorothy W. Sterner, 98, formerly of Hershey passed away Friday, February 7, 2020 at Frey Village, Middletown.
Born June 27, 1921 in Middletown, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Attick) Walmer. She was widowed since February 1993 after 50 years of marriage to her high school sweetheart Robert L. Sterner, Sr. and also preceded in death by sisters Rachel Hersch and Gladys Lockard and brother Leon Walmer.
Surviving are her son Robert, Jr., husband of Jean Sterner of St. Peters Village; daughter Marilyn, wife of Jeoffry Grove of Elizabethtown; and grandchildren Robert Sterner of Elizabethtown, Christopher Sterner of Canoga Park, California, Jeffrey Grove of Schaefferstown, and Jessica Brinck of Harrisburg.
A 1939 graduate of Middletown High School, Dottie worked at Olmsted Air Force Base and retired from the Dauphin County Courthouse. She was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Middletown and volunteered at the Hershey Medical Center, Frey Village and the Hummelstown Food Bank. A 4-H and Girl Scout Leader, she was a member of the Sand Hill Farm Women. Dottie enjoyed sewing, knitting and reading, all of which she was unable to do in her later years due to macular degeneration.
A service will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Grand View Memorial Park, 500 North Weber Street, Annville.
