Donald J. “Sonny” Byler, 88, of Palmyra went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Born March 24, 1938 in McVeytown, he was a son of the late Wilbur John “Scrib” and Gretta Naomi (Krepps) Byler and widower of Kay F. (Donmoyer) Williamson Byler since October 2025, after 43 years of marriage. Don was also preceded in death by siblings Larry Byler and Shirley Ortenzio.
After 28 years, he retired from Roadway Express in 1999, having earned various safety awards and reaching 2 million accident-free miles in 1998. Sonny was a member of Spring Creek Church of the Brethren for over 75 years, a 1956 graduate of Hershey High School, and attended Hershey Junior College. During his 25-year residence at Londonderry Village he was involved in recycling, lawn maintenance and transportation. Don enjoyed pickleball, riding his bicycle, daily coffee with his buddies, woodworking, and was a member of the Hershey and PA Dutch Antique Automobile Clubs.
Surviving are his children Tammy Keller (Jeffrey), Randy Byler (Melissa), Lisa Wenzel (Frank) and Nicole Scabarozi (Joseph); step sons Scott Williamson (Marcia) and Steven Williamson (Deb); siblings Helen Geib, Ray Byler (Joanne), Darvin Byler (Sandy), Robert Byler (Jackie), Linda Ortenzio (Zack), Daryl Byler, and Duane Byler (Debbie); ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, 335 East Areba Avenue, Hershey with burial in the adjoining Spring Creek Cemetery, Hershey. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Tuesday.
