GOD IS GOOD
Donald E. Romberger, 77, of Palmyra was born July 8, 1946 in Lykens to the late George E. and Betty E. (Pickup) Romberger and passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at the Hershey Medical Center after years of various cancers.
Don’s motto was never give up, never give up. He grew up in the Halifax/Millersburg area, graduated form Millersburg High School and then entered the United States Air Force, where he fought in the Vietnam War. Don was very proud to have served his country. He was a great accordion player, playing in various accordion shows and then formed his own band known as the Entertainers. During his life, he ran 15 marathons and competed in a few iron man competitions. After serving his country, Don entered the insurance business with major companies. He retired from Masonic Villages as Director of Marketing and, after retirement, started his own Insurance Company known as American Benefits, specializing in Medicare supplements. Don became a lay pastor, filled in whenever a church needed a pastor, and loved passing the word of God unto others and did so whenever he could. He was a very caring and giving person, as his family well knows.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years Sandra M. (Koppenhaver) Romberger; their children Kimberly A. Romberger of Palmyra and Brian W. Romberger (Heather) of Kutztown; granddaughters Kortney I. Marvel, Cameron S. Romberger and Abigail R. Mellor (Kenny); extended family including step granddaughters Rachel Cooper (Shane) and Kayleigh Mills; sister in law Brenda Stenger; brother in law Lynn Koppenhaver; and his emotional support dog Dietrich, which he loved deeply.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday August 19, 2023, at his church, First Evangelical Congregational Church, 55 West Main Street, Palmyra preceded by a visitation from 10:00 AM. Private committal, with military honors, will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
Don was involved with Susquehanna Service Dogs so his request in lieu of flowers, as his way of continuing to help others through a service dog, is for donations to Susquehanna Service Dogs, 1078 Gravel Hill Road, Grantville, PA 17028 or First Evangelical Congregational Church, 55 West Main Street, Palmyra, PA 17078.
