David Lane Sattazahn, 97, of Hershey, passed peacefully in his sleep into the presence of Jesus on September 1, 2022 at Harmony at Hershey.
He was born August 18, 1925 in Hershey, the son of the late David and Bessie (Witmer) Sattazahn.
A 1943 graduate of Hershey Vocational School, Dave worked as a machinist/model maker for AMP. A proud US Navy veteran, he served on the USS Bremerton during World War II. He was a faithful member of Campbelltown United Methodist Church, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Hershey Recycling. Both the church and family historian, he kept detailed logs and photo albums to preserve memories. Favorite memories included many trips with his wife throughout the US, Canada and overseas and treasured family time at their cabin in Mifflin County. He loved to read, beginning each day with time in his Bible, followed by a long walk in his Hershey neighborhood. Having suffered a profound hearing loss in his forties, Dave nevertheless reached out with a kind word to everyone he met, mailed dozens of birthday cards each year, constantly exuded gratitude for his many blessings, and could be counted on for his “little speeches” at family gatherings, encouraging loved ones to always put God first and “take time to smell the roses”.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Dorothy (Dot) Keefer Sattazahn and teenage brother Edwin Sattazahn.
He is survived by his three sons: Barry (Annette) and Robert (Lee Anne) of Palmyra, David (Tracey) of Shirleysburg, and daughter Nancy (Thomas) Barnett of Elizabethtown; ten grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
A private viewing and burial will take place at the Hershey Cemetery. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on October 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Campbelltown United Methodist Church, 2760 Horseshoe Pike, Palmyra, PA 17078. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the mission work of Dave’s granddaughter (checks payable to DMI and designated to North Africa fund) DMI, 11 Toll Gate Road, Lititz, PA 17543 (doveusa.org) or to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 (samaritanspurse.org).
