Beloved husband and father Daniel C. Zipf went home to be with the Lord at 12:26 pm on Tuesday August 18, 2020 at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA.
He was born April 6, 1948 to Theodore H. Zipf and Glenyce A. Zipf in Minneapolis, MN. Following a call to ministry, Dan attended California Lutheran Bible School and returned to the Twin Cities where he finished his undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota.
During a gospel concert in 1969 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN, Dan met a blonde soprano, Kathryn Boyd. The two were married July 10, 1971 at Salem Lutheran Church, Roland, IA and four rambunctious boys were added to their lives soon after. For more than forty-nine years, Kathie was the love of his life.
In 1987, Dan graduated from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School with a Master of Divinity and the family relocated from the Midwest to the East Coast. Dan pastored two churches, became a social worker for Lancaster County, PA, and was a security guard at Hershey Park until his passing.
Always teaching; always willing to be taught; in every city the family lived in over many miles and years, Dan never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his loving wife: Kathie, his four sons: Peter, Andrew, Nathan and Benjamin, his mother: Glenyce Zipf and siblings: Paul Zipf, Stephen Zipf, Judy Lennartson, Jeanette Haugen, and Jonathan Zipf. His nine grandchildren Kendalyn, Sasha, Tariku, Ashebir, Hazel, Simeon, Shepherd, Aiden and Jude will miss their Papa.
Dan left suddenly and without warning. No one was ready. Mercifully, he did not suffer, and the journey was quick. His family deeply mourns his death and celebrates the life of their father and husband.
Dan took his last breath surrounded by the voices of his sons and wife, singing him to Glory.
They will meet again.
Daddy is an eight-foot wookie.
