Charles Herbert Appelt, 94, of Annville passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023.
Born on February 2, 1929 in Ephrata, PA, he was the son of the late John and Nellie (Spoonhauer) Appelt. He was the widower of Alice Pauline “Polly” (Sandford) Appelt who died October 2000 and was preceded in death by son Charles E. Appelt in June 2004.
He was a 1944 graduate of the Lincoln School in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His last employment was with H.B. Reese Candy Company and he retired after 21 years as the 2nd shift superintendent in 1991. A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and retired from the Air Force with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1969 after 20 years of active military service.
He is survived by his three daughters and their families; Mary Lynn Williams and her husband John Williams, Denah Appelt and her husband Marcus Bell and their son Christopher Bell, Nell Pfautz and her husband Scott Pfautz and their son Jason Pfautz and his wife Sara Pfautz, and their daughter, Jessica Nugent and her husband Dan Nugent and their three children; Owen, Logan and Emma. Also surviving are his siblings Virginia Kleinfelter, George Appelt and Richard Appelt.
A graveside service, with military honors, will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
