Anthony Koeun Som, 88, of Hershey, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, at Hershey Medical Center surrounded by family. He was born on Monday, December 9th, 1935, in Kompong Cham, Cambodia.
Anthony graduated from École Navale, a prestigious French military academy, and went on to serve as captain in the Cambodian Navy. In 1975, during a tumultuous time in Cambodia’s history, he and his family were sponsored by Hershey Free Church to come to the United States.
Upon arriving in America, Anthony worked diligently and found his place in the Hershey community, retiring from H.B. Reese Candy Company after many years of dedicated service. He lived a full life with many passions, including painting, rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, and traveling around the world with the love of his life.
He was the son of the late Kim Phin Som and Thieng Yun. He was preceded in death by his son Sovannarith Som on January 18, 2022.
Anthony was a loving father and devoted husband to his beloved wife, Jennifer Saokhonn Nhem Som. Together, they raised five children, building a legacy of love, strength, and perseverance.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years Jennifer Saokhonn Nhem Som;
daughter Chandneary Buck (Jonathan) and children Nathan Buck and Ashley Buck;
daughter Puttheara Saul (John) and sons Nicholas Kristich, Kyle Saul and Jordan Saul;
son Setthyvong Som (Lisa) and son Zachary Som;
daughter Poingtevy Dolan (Craig) and children Trey Ahearn (Alexandra) and Aydan Dolan;
son Chamrouen Som (Jeanna) and children Cameryn Som, Neena Som and Charlize Som;
Sovannarith’s son Ryan Som; and
brother Setthay Som (Sophorn Holl) and nieces Penelope Som, Amanda Som and nephew Christopher Som.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 19th, 2024, at 9:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM, both at the Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra. Interment will be at the Hershey Cemetery.
Anthony will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he touched with his kindness and resilience.
