Walter T. Hoops, 93, of Palmyra, left this mortal life to be with the Lord Monday, December 25, 2017.
Born October 23, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Timothy C. and Elsie (Lauterwasser) Hoops.
As a young man he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Afterward, he and his wife spent 35 years in Argentina as missionaries where he was also a seminary professor. Alongside their mission, they raised their family. Since retirement, they have been members of the Hershey Free Church heading the Home Away from Home program.
He leaves behind his wife of 70 years Marion H. (Herriott) Hoops; children Nancy, wife of Kenneth Miller of Palmyra, Timothy, husband of Deborah Hoops of Philadelphia, Walter “Terry,” husband of Patricia Hoops of Sherman, Texas, Sandy Hoops of Palmyra, Elizabeth, wife of Lorenzo Meson of Lebanon; sisters Jane Kengeter of Hightstown, New Jersey and Barbara Gayk of Williamsburg, Virginia; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Hershey Free Church, 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown. Private interment, with military honors, will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
