Thomas J. Smilek

Thomas J. Smilek, 87, of East Hanover Township, Dauphin County passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018 at his home.

Born March 17, 1931 in New Castle, he was a son of the late Frank J. and Anna (Gonda) Smilek and the widower of his wife of almost 50 years D. Ann (Russo) Smilek since September 2007.

Retired from AMP with 40 years of service, he attended Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War having been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for valor.  Tom enjoyed antique cars and car shows, being a pilot and able to fly somewhere just for dinner.  An amateur photographer, he was often the photographer for family weddings.  More than anything, he loved his family and grandchildren.

Surviving are his son Frank J., husband of Wendy Smilek of Elizabethtown; daughter Susan L. Smilek, wife of Barry Martin of Little Silver, New Jersey; siblings Ann Delores Clausnitzer, Franklin Smilek, and Margaret Bogard; grandchildren Jeremy and his wife Michelle, Miles, and Eva; great grandchildren McKenzie and Max; seven nieces and five nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd, Harrisburg.  Interment, with military honors, will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.  Viewing will be held 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday at Buse Funeral Home, 9066 Jonestown Road, Grantville and 10:00 – 11:00 AM Thursday at the church.
