Ruth E. Griffie, 87, of Chapel Pointe of Carlisle and formerly of Newville passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Chapel Pointe.
Born October 16, 1930 in Upper Mifflin Township, Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Mary M. (Miller) Lay. She was the widow of Glenn L. Griffie since June 1, 2008.
A former registered nurse at Carlisle Hospital Emergency Room, she retired from Masland Associates, Carlisle. She was a 1948 graduate of the former Newville High School, a 1951 graduate of Polyclinic School of Nursing, attended Henry Chapel at Chapel Pointe, and was a past member of Newville Eastern Star. A member of Big Spring Senior Center, Zion United Church of Christ, Newburg and the Women’s Guild, she was a participant of the Harvard Medical School Nurse’s Health Study.
Surviving are her children Karen L., wife of James Cochran of Mechanicsburg, Nancy J., widow of James Moore of Roach, Missouri, Donna R., wife of Jeffrey Buse of Grantville, and Kevin L. Griffie of Columbia, Maryland; brother George W. Lay of Carlisle; grandchildren Ross, husband of Molly Anthony, Erin, wife of Joseph Crispin, Nathan, husband of Amanda Buse, Sean, husband of Krista Cochran, and Parker Griffie; great grandchildren, Abigail, Elijah, Naomi, Isaiah and Daniel Crispin, Mackenzie Cochran, and Waylon Anthony.
A celebration of her life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in Henry Chapel at Chapel Pointe, 770 South Hanover Street, Carlisle preceded by a viewing beginning at 10:00 AM. Private interment will be in Zion Hill Cemetery, Newburg.
