Mary "Janie" Freet Obituary

Mary "Janie" Freet, 74, of East Hanover Township, Dauphin County has peacefully passed on to be with our Lord on Saturday, November 30, 2019 with her loved ones by her side in the farmhouse where she was brought into this world.

Janie was born March 17, 1945, the daughter of the late Lillian Baker Meyerhoffer and Franklin O. Meyerhoffer.  She was also preceded in death by brother, Frank Meyerhoffer and brother, Charles, who died as an infant.

Surviving is her husband of 54 years, Richard L. Freet, Sr.; daughter and son in law, Mary and Kris Coletti of Hummelstown; son, Richard L. Freet, Jr. of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Marc D., Anthony D., Leah F. and Cameron F.; sister, Betty Eckenrode of Missouri; and two brothers, David Meyerhoffer of Texas and Ken Meyerhoffer of Robesonia.

She was a 1963 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School and retired from the M. S. Hershey Medical Center.  Janie's greatest talent and love were her pies, cakes, cookies and other sweet treats.  Not a week went by that a dessert wasn't made for her church, bake sale, firehouse or as payment to a friend for some nominal favor they may have done.  She also enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labor year after year.  Horses and dogs could always be found on the farm and if the winter provided enough snow with the right conditions, she and Richard were able to give sleigh rides in the fields or on roads in the neighborhood.  As a young woman, before she had kids of her own, she was a mother to many nieces, nephews and young people in her life.  It is no wonder that in 1974, she and another new mom were inspired and successfully launched a pre-school with her church, Faith United Church of Christ, that is still going strong 45 years later.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Faith United Church of Christ, 117 North Faith Road, Grantville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith United Church of Christ, "BUILDING FUND," PO Box 2, Grantville, PA 17028.
