Kenneth G. Schaeffer, 82, formerly of Palmyra passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Hill Farm Estate, Annville.
Born July 23, 1934 in Palmyra, he was a son of the late Shirk and Mary (Werner) Schaeffer. After 62 years of marriage, he was the widower of Freida J. (Houser) Schaeffer since October 2015 and was also preceded in death by a daughter Brenda Lee Schaeffer and siblings Arlene Haldeman and Glenn Schaeffer.
Retired as parts manager from Ebersole Automotive, Lebanon with 46 years of service, he served in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1952 – 1961. An active lifetime member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Palmyra, he served as a Sunday School teacher for 59 years, youth group director, and trustee, in addition to being a member of Ad Council for 33 years and singing in the choir for 37 years. Formerly, he was secretary for the Board of Directors of Palmyra Interfaith Manor and member of Palmyra Area Cooperating Churches. An avid Phillies and Penn State fan, he enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing, but especially loved spending time with his granddaughters.
Surviving are his children Steven Schaeffer of Lebanon, David Schaeffer of Annville, and Karen, wife of David Finney of Palmyra; granddaughters Bethany Oleyniczak, Kelly Shuey, and Sash Schaeffer; and great granddaughter Lily Grace Oleyniczak.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 22, 2017 at his church, 20 East Cherry Street, Palmyra preceded by a viewing from 10:00 AM. Interment in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
