John R. DeRemer, Jr. Obituary

 

 

John R. DeRemer, Jr., 69, of Lower Paxton Township, passed away Thursday at his home.

 

Born February 3, 1949 in Scranton, he was the son of the late John R. DeRemer, Sr., and Gail A. (Gibbs) DeRemer.

 

John was also preceded in death by his son, John William DeRemer, his grandson, Luke Szekeres, and his sister, Lois Cressman.

 

Following his graduation from Susquehanna High School, John worked as a salesman for W&L Beverage and then owned his own home inspection business.

 

Athletics and being in shape were a huge part of John's life. He was a stand out athlete during his time at Susquehanna High School where he played wide receiver and punter on the football team and ran on the track team, where he holds a record with the relay team. After high school he continued to play football at East Stroudsburg University. Other athletic endeavors John was involved in were his tryouts with George Allen's Washington Redskins, he was also offered a contract with the Philadelphia Bell in the World Football League, played Semi Pro football for the Harrisburg Cowboys and the Cumberland Colts. John also had the title of 1st Runner Up in the Mr. Pennsylvania Bodybuilding Contest and owned his own gym in Carlisle, DeRemer's Gym. 

 

John was also a lover of the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, gardening and grilling out were some of his favorite things to do. He loved music and was an avid reader. 

 

Surviving is his wife: Patricia J. (Wilson) DeRemer; his daughter: Kimberly DeRemer Szekeres; his son: John R. DeRemer, III, (Robin); his son: Michael DeRemer (Lindsay); his daughter: Erin Giambrone (Nino); his grandchildren: Madeline Szekeres, Connor Kershner, Jack DeRemer, Wesley DeRemer, Nino Giambrone, III, Pierson DeRemer, Kai DeRemer and Lydia Giambrone.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 6, 2018 at United Church of God, 1211 Fairmont Drive, Harrisburg, preceded by a visitation beginning at 1:00 PM.
