John K. Hanshue, 95, of Hummelstown died on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
Born March 27, 1923 in Union Deposit, he was a son of the late John P. and Carrie (Keller) Hanshue.
A retired teacher from Derry Township School District, he had served as Chair of the Health and Physical Education Department, Assistant Athletic Director, Recreation Director, basketball coach, assistant football and baseball coach. John was a 1940 graduate of Hershey High School, attended the former Hershey Junior College, graduated from the former West Chester State Teachers College and attended Temple University. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hummelstown, Brownstone Lodge #666 F. & A. M., Hershey, the Harrisburg Consistory, National Education Association (Retired), Pennsylvania State Education Association (Retired), Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, and the Dauphin County Chapter of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
Surviving are his wife Anna (Cooper) Hanshue with whom he would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on January 1st; son John D., husband of Margaret (Wieger) Hanshue of Hummelstown; daughter Carol, wife of Robert Zimmerman of Fenwick Island, Delaware; sister Shirley J. Kurtz of Harrisburg; brother Robert B. Hanshue of Nauvoo, Alabama; grandchildren Shaun, husband of Anna Zimmerman of White Hall, Maryland, Carrie, wife of Ben Austin of Ferrum, Virginia, Erin, wife of Luke Catalfano of Middletown, Jamie Zimmerman of Santa Barbara, California, Kimberly Hanshue of Charlestown, South Carolina, and Amy Hanshue of Hummelstown; and great grandson John Michael Austin.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Buse Funeral Home, 2 East Main Street, Hummelstown preceded by a visitation from 10:00 AM. Interment in Union Deposit Cemetery.
