Hildred W. Sowers, 97, of Millsboro, Delaware, and formerly of Rutherford Heights passed away Friday, August 9, 2019, surrounded by her family, at the home of her granddaughter in Hummelstown.
Born April 9, 1922 in Williamsburg, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mott (Hume) Winfrey and the widow of Wayne C. “Apple” Sowers since 1991. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Pat A. Behney in 2017.
Owner of the former DubleD Inn, Rutherford, she was a member of East Gate Presbyterian Church, Millsboro.
Surviving are her children William J., husband of Sharon Sowers of Hummelstown and Linda S., wife of Floyd “Mac” McMullen of Millsboro, Delaware; son-in-law Charles “Chip” Behney; brothers Burnett Winfrey and Gene Winfrey; grandchildren David F., husband of Beth McMullen, Thomas W., husband of Jessica McMullen, Dawn K. McMullen, Dawn E. Gallagher, Michael C., husband of Lindsay Behney, Sara E., wife of Alex Egan and Lara A. Sowers; great grandchildren Andrew McMullen, Ian McMullen, Jameson McMullen, Logan McMullen, Stone Gallagher, William Egan and Esther Egan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 23, 2019 at Buse Funeral Home, 2 East Main Street, Hummelstown preceded by a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Private interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
