Hazel L. Sipe, 97, of Union Deposit passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at home.
Born December 11, 1919 in Mansfield, PA, she was a daughter of the late Frederick W. and Lillian Genevieve (Elston) Barnes. She was the widow of Elwood David Sipe, Sr. since February 1998 and was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
A former employee of Hershey Chocolate Factory, she was a member of Mount Calvary Church, Elizabethtown. The single most defining attribute of Hazel’s life was her love for the Lord and sharing the Gospel. Through Child Evangelism of Dauphin County, she taught Good News Club for most of her adult life. We are amazed at the number of adults we happen upon who remember Hazel and the Good News Club. She was very involved in the Harrisburg Area Youth for Christ (now called the Harrisburg Christian Performing Arts Center). Her joy in sharing the Gospel included financial support for two missionary families as well as numerous local and national Christian organizations. Her love of Christ was only equaled by her love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hazel loved to study Bible prophecy and her heart’s desire was to be raptured at Christ’s return. While she was not raptured out of this world, we know that she now has eyes that can see clearly, lungs that can breathe deeply and a heart filled with joy and love as she sits with her Savior.
Surviving are her children Elwood D., Jr. husband of Delores Sipe, Pamela J., wife of James Strange, and Donna M., wife of Ron Hixon; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held 12:00 Noon Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Buse Funeral Home, 2 East Main Street, Hummelstown preceded by a visitation from 11:00 AM. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
