Harry F. McCurdy, 92, of Annville went home to be with his Lord with his family by his side on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
Born December 25, 1925 in Bachmanville, he was a son of the late Harry and Katie (Gruber) McCurdy. He was also preceded in death by siblings Nola Huggins, Lester McCurdy, and Nancy Gutshall, and his wife Doris M. (Hoffer) McCurdy after 65 years of marriage in February 2013.
He started Harry F. McCurdy Sons Builders, LLC in 1955 and built many custom homes and Skyline View and Ono Churches, with his sons Brian, Frank, and John continuing to run the business. A World War II Air Force veteran, he enlisted in 1942 and flew 33 combat missions over Germany as a tail gunner in a B-24 Liberator. Harry was a member, usher and greeter of Palm Lutheran Church, and member of the NRA and Palmyra American Legion Post 72. Work was his favorite hobby, but he also enjoyed his Ford Mustangs, hunting, music, player pianos, NASCAR races, and was an avid Penguins hockey fan and bird watcher. Harry also enjoyed Saturday morning coffee break with his siblings and traveling with his wife and siblings.
Surviving are his children Patricia A., wife of Jeff Kurtz of Bartlett, Tennessee, Kathleen L., widow of John Wieland of Annville, Brian D., husband of Babette McCurdy of Annville, Debra K., wife of Fred Zullo of Lebanon, Marilyn S. McCurdy of Wernersville, Franklin K., husband of Brynn McCurdy of Annville, Harry J., husband of Lynn McCurdy of Tampa, Florida, John D., husband of Cindy McCurdy of Annville, and Angel E. McCurdy-Nye, wife of James Nye of Palmyra; sisters Erla Phillippy, Anna Stoner, and Jane Jamison; 22 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 12:00 Noon Friday, February 9, 2018 at his church, 11 West Cherry Street, Palmyra preceded by a visitation from 10:30 AM. Private interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
