George Ronald Groff, 81, of Sunbury passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in the Lebanon VA Medical Center.
Born June 9, 1937 in Adamstown, he was the son of the late George Groff and Stella (Schweitzer) Weaver.
A graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, he served in the U. S. Army for two years. He worked at Celetex before becoming a distributor for Goods Potato Chips, building and running the business for many years before selling the distributorship and working for Prudential Insurance until his retirement. Following retirement, he worked at Zweier Funeral Home and Alexander Buick Cadillac GMC both of Sunbury.
George was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sunbury and volunteered to teach Sunday School at nursing homes, the prison and area churches. He was an authorized worship lay leader, preached at many area churches and served on Interfaith Council for many years.
Over the years, he was a member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Salvation Army Board, Red Cross Board, Gideons International, Central Susquehanna Sight Service, Sunbury Municipal Authority Board, Adamstown VFW, Herndon Fire Company, and Sunbury Rescue Fire Company.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years Jean Ann (Paul) Groff; daughters Kathy, wife of Richard Sharetzsky of Palmyra, Cindy, wife of Paul Dailey of Sunbury and Jil, wife of Eric Barnum of Palmdale, California; five grandchildren Zachary Dailey, Rachel Dailey, Drake Sharetzsky, Alexandria Barnum Weld, wife of Evan, and Christopher Barnum, partner of Ashley and her daughter Sarah.
Interment, with military honors, will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 14, 2018 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 Susquehanna Avenue, Sunbury, preceded by a visitation beginning at 9:30 AM.
