Donald E. Lawrence Obituary

Donald E. Lawrence, 87, of Hershey passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Don was born on March 3, 1932 on Folmer Street in Lebanon. He was the son of the late Maurice Breitenstine Lawrence and Jennie V. (Hassler) Lawrence. Don and his family lived in various locations in Lebanon County prior to moving to Hershey.

Don is survived by his wife Viola I. (Hoerner) Lawrence. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage.

Don was a United States Army Veteran who served overseas in Germany. Don retired after 25 years of service from the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center. He was a member of the Hershey VFW Post 3502 and a past member of the Hershey Italian Lodge. Don enjoyed many happy days fishing with his buddies and holding court in his garage where all the neighbor men would gather.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Harry A. of Hershey, daughter Elizabeth L. Clancy (Joseph) of Campbelltown, stepdaughters Carla Weaver (Albert) of Lebanon and Barbara K. Woodworth (Logan) of Hummelstown. Don has one granddaughter Anna-Kate E. Clancy and step-grandchildren, Jason and Eric Peterson, Dylan and Hannah Woodworth and step-great grandchildren Madison, Brandon, Jolie Peterson and Wyatt Watson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter Linda D. Bowen and her husband Joseph Bowen (North Carolina).

Don was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen Lawrence, Beatrice Weidle, Lela Baney and Leone Troain. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A committal service with military honors will be held on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Procession to the committal shelter will form at the rear of the Cemetery Administrative Building at 8:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate acts of paying it forward by anonymously treating unsuspecting patrons to a meal while out to eat, as Don and Viola were recipients of this selfless act many times over the years.
