Donald E. Beam, 90, of Hummelstown passed on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Carolyn’s House, Harrisburg.
Born August 15, 1928 in Summerdale, he was a son of the late George W. and Goldie I. (Zimmerman) Beam and the widower of Joan E. (Rubright) Beam in 1966. He was also preceded in death by siblings Richard Beam, Irene Orris, and Robert Beam.
He was General Manager of the Southern Division Accounting Office for Agway Corporation for 29 years and then retired with 10 years of service from Lower Dauphin School District as custodian of Price Elementary School which he called the “Best days of his life.” After retirement in 1993 until June 5, 2018, he volunteered for 25 years at Nye Elementary School. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Donald was a faithful attendee of Hershey Free Church. He was a former board member of the Summerdale Credit Union, enjoyed golfing with his buddies, plowing snow for his neighbors, and placing American flags along Redwood and Willow Streets in Hummelstown.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years Suzanne (Buyakowski) Beam; siblings Lois, widow of Fred Milakovic, Shirley, wife of Paul Thompson, Jean, wife of Gary Morgan, Linda, wife of Larry Eslinger, Ronald, husband of Sandy Beam; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, February 23, 2019 at his church, 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown. Private interment in Hummelstown Cemetery.
